Frequently Asked Questions
At Edge Orthodontics we encourage our patients to ask questions. Many want to know more about orthodontics and in particular how the work of an orthodontist and a dentist differs. We’ve put together the following answers to the most frequently asked questions we get.
What is orthodontics?
At Edge Orthodontics we specialise in the field of orthodontics. This means we concentrate on ensuring our patients receive treatment that corrects the alignment of their teeth and jaws which improves self-confidence and oral health.
Who provides orthodontic treatment?
Dr Angie Phelan and Dr Lachlan Crowther are the specialist orthodontists at Edge Orthodontics. They have studied dentistry and orthodontics and are committed to delivering exceptional results for their patients.
What orthodontic treatment is available?
We provide orthodontic treatment for all family members. From an early consultation for children, through to Invisalign Teen for teenagers and a range of treatments for adults. You can find out more about our range of treatment options on our treatment homepage.
How much does orthodontic treatment cost?
The cost of orthodontic treatment depends on the type of orthodontic treatment you have. At Edge Orthodontics we work with you to ensure your orthodontic treatment is affordable by offering a range of flexible and interest-free payment plans.
Does orthodontic treatment hurt?
No, it doesn’t hurt, but it may be a little bit uncomfortable at times. This usually occurs when your braces or aligners are first fitted, and then at certain stages throughout your treatment when we need to tighten or adjust your appliances. This discomfort is easily treated with over-the-counter pain relief.
Do you offer Invisalign?
Yes, we sure do and it’s one of our most popular treatment options. Invisalign allows us to straighten your teeth without the need for braces. The method uses a series of clear, plastic aligners to move your teeth into position and has a number of benefits. Find out more about Invisalign and Invisalign Teen on our website.
What other invisible treatment options do you have?
In addition to Invisalign we also offer Incognito lingual braces at Edge Orthodontics. These braces are fitted to the back surface of your teeth making them virtually invisible.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Orthodontic treatment usually takes between 12 and 24 months; however, this does depend on the type of treatment you are receiving and the complexity of your case. At Edge Orthodontics we also offer six months smiles which is orthodontic treatment suitable for minor cases.
Is orthodontic treatment suitable for children?
Yes, and at Edge Orthodontics we are very family friendly. We endorse the Australian Society of Orthodontists recommendation that every child should have an orthodontic consultation by the age of seven. This helps us to identify any orthodontic problems that may arise in the future and plan treatment accordingly.
What makes Edge Orthodontics unique?
At Edge Orthodontics we value each and every one of our patients. We know that you could choose from a number of orthodontic practices so we really appreciate you coming to us for your treatment. You can find out more about what makes us different on our page ‘What’s our edge’?
