What is orthodontics?
Orthodontic treatment involves the design and use of corrective techniques, such as braces, plates or clear aligners, to bring the teeth and/or jaw into proper alignment. There are several types of braces which you can discover more about in our understanding braces section.
No two orthodontic treatments are the same and completion can take between 12 and 24 months from start to finish. Total treatment time varies depending on the severity of the problem, the type of treatment carried out and the co-operation of the patient.
Types of treatment
At EDGE Orthodontics we offer various orthodontic treatment options including:
- Invisalign, a treatment system that uses clear plastic aligners to straighten teeth
- Invisalign Teen, which is ideal for teenage patients who don’t want to compromise on their appearance
A beautiful smile is for the whole family and at EDGE Orthodontics we believe we can make this happen at any age. Whether you start with early treatment in childhood or decide to make a change in teenage or adult years we have the treatments to suit you.
Your first visit
On your first visit to EDGE Orthodontics in Coorparoo we will sit down and discuss exactly what results you want to get from your treatment. You are welcome to bring along your partner, parents or a friend so we can cover all bases and address any questions you might have.
Dr Phelan or Dr Crowther will then complete a thorough evaluation of your face, teeth and bite so the treatment can be personalised to your specific needs.
After the evaluation has taken place, we will sit down and talk through the treatment options which are available for you, when it should start, the duration and an approximate cost. Often the orthodontist will develop a treatment plan on your first consultation but where surgery or extractions are needed a second consultation may be necessary.
We appreciate time is precious for all our patients so if you feel you are ready to start treatment, we will make an appointment to collect your records and start treatment as soon as possible.
