Dental hygiene

We recommend flossing and brushing your teeth and braces after you eat as well as every morning and night. To make sure your teeth stay healthy and strong, we also encourage you to maintain your regular dental check-ups during orthodontic treatment.

Make tooth-brushing time a blast!

Proper brushing is one of the most important things during orthodontic treatment, and Dr Angie Phelan has written a children’s book to help kids learn how to do just that. Open Up is a fun, rhyming tale that will encourage children to take ownership over their oral health.

Food and your braces

Most of our patients are happy to discover they can still enjoy most of their favourite foods during treatment. However, modifying your diet by avoiding hard or chewy foods and/or cutting some items up into smaller bites can help reduce the risk of breaking a bracket or archwire on your braces. After your fitting appointment, we will advise you on which foods to avoid.
